The venue is the beautifully proportioned Victorian Gallery at the Leicester New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, a perfect space for chamber music. Each concert will highlight awork of art in the collection dating from the time of one of the works played.
The ICS Academy will provide an opportunity for the young quartets of tomorrow to receive coaching from these outstanding visiting artists in public masterclasses at Leicester’s Belmont Hotel. Local schools will also benefit from workshops.
Visitors to Leicester can enjoy inclusive weekend packages at The Belmont for an overall experience of music, shopping and history with the award-winning Richard III Centre.”
Graham Oppenheimer, series director:
“Come and join us in Leicester for a series of Sunday morning coffee concerts. As the Gramophone Magazine recently stated: “String quartets were once seen as elitist and unapproachable. Now they’re perhaps the most exciting area of classical music.” I too believe that we are currently witnessing a golden age for the string quartet and nowhere more so than in Leicester where there is a long tradition of string quartet concerts. Both universities have traditionally supported string quartets with the University of Leicester presenting the iconic Lindsay Quartet for many years. This exciting new series fills the current gap for audiences across the East Midlands, giving them the unique opportunity to hear outstanding international quartets outside of London.
